That morning, when the sun hadn’t even bothered to rise yet, and the glow of the portal was the only light around, Kendra threw a pebble to the skylight that Arian slept under, and was welcomed with a shaggy mess of hair on the other side.
She opened the window slowly, squinting out into the darkness of the back garden. “What are you doing?” she hissed. Kendra spread her arms wide, showing her the bag she had packed, the clothes she was wearing.
