[definition: to combine or unite to form one organization or structure]

It didn’t take very long
for something to shift.
Before long
it turned from
fleeing your house at daybreak
to turning over in your bed
and breathing the smell
of slightly burnt,
way too strong
coffee in a mug
I had claimed as my own.

It turned into
stealing the pillow
that lingered, full of you,
when your voicemail said
‘Hey, you, I’ll be late today.’

It turned into
something like two opposing rivers
meeting halfway
and realizing
“We have more power
if we flow to the sea
together.”

So we did.
