The world outside is jostled and painful
And an ambulance passed my open window,
Sirens and lights ablaze to signal death
Or the saving of a life.
But in this room,
This space and
This bed,
All that matters is your arms
Saving me,
And you pull me from the water
Again and again.
The world outside doesn’t matter
There is no world but this
No tomorrow but now,
Until daybreak comes to kill the promise
And this life of ours is gone.
But here
There is only us
And the water.
