There we stood –
Three friends
Cast together in a sea of boredom,
Staring at the empty shell
Of a former palace
And deciding that
Danger could be stared in the face for once.

(One lay in the sun,
Taking up the floor
And the secrets it held.)

One hall was black
With the blood of flames
Years old and dried
On the wall.

One stretch of land
Was full of former splendour –
Now only home
To flowers, mice and
Prawling felines.

The skeleton
Of this once beautiful place
Almost looked
After countless colourful pain
Emptied on its walls
By reckless vandals
